Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Clonebased for using the platform.
Last updated: 24 October 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Clonebased, a product of ApeTec Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using Clonebased, you agree to these Terms.
The service
Clonebased provides, to the people we call Builders:
- An AI clone of a creator, built from the creator's public YouTube channel and from course material the creator provides, which answers questions in the creator's voice.
- A website for each clone, branded to the creator, published on a clonebased.com address or the creator's own domain, with a chat application behind sign-in for the creator's students.
- Student logins, which the Builder issues and renews and the creator hands to their students.
- Private preview links, so a Builder can show a creator their clone before anything is public.
- Find Creators: a prospecting tool that surfaces YouTube channels by niche and audience size from public channel data. Pro accounts get up to 100 creators a week. It is part of Pro. Channel data is provided "as is". Verify before you rely on it, and you are responsible for how you use it.
- Billing for Builder subscriptions.
Every clone's answers are generated by an AI model. They can be wrong. Clonebased does not provide legal, financial, medical or business advice, does not provide the creator's course itself, and does not take payments from students on anyone's behalf.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service or any part of it at our discretion.
Accounts
You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract. Keep your credentials secure. If you suspect someone else has used your account, change your password in Settings — that signs every other device out.
Only Builders have accounts with Clonebased. A creator has no account and receives nothing from us. A student signs in to a clone's site with a login the creator gave them; that login is not an account with us. We hold no contact details for it, only a username and any label the Builder types to tell logins apart, such as a first name.
Builders, creators and students
Clonebased is used by Builders, who build and run clones, for creators, whose students use them. Any agreement between a Builder and a creator — including price, scope, what the clone may say and conduct — is between them alone. Any agreement between a creator and their students is between them alone. We are not a party to either, we make no representation about any Builder's work, pricing, conduct or promises, and we are not responsible for disputes between Builders, creators and students. A student who cannot sign in, or whose access has ended, should ask whoever gave them their login.
The creator's permission
A clone speaks as a real person. Before a clone is published, the Builder confirms in the product that the creator has agreed to it. That confirmation is the Builder's statement to us and to the creator, and the Builder is responsible for its truth. A preview link is not a publication: it is private, reachable only through its own unguessable address, never listed or indexed, and it stops working after 7 days.
A creator who finds a clone of themselves that they did not agree to can have it taken down without asking anyone: at the takedown page they prove the channel is theirs by placing a code we issue in the channel's description on YouTube, and every clone of that channel goes offline at once and can never be published again. The Builder is told in the product. We do not review, approve or mediate these requests, and we do not refund a subscription because a clone was taken down this way.
Course material
Course material is given to the Builder by the creator and added by the Builder. Documents are kept as text. Video is transcribed in the Builder's own browser and only the transcript is kept; Clonebased never stores the video itself, not even temporarily. Nothing is fetched from course platforms, members' areas or anywhere behind a login. By adding material you confirm that the creator has the right to it and has given it to you for this clone.
Fair use and limits
Plans carry limits, and those limits are enforced in the product:
- A Free account can build 1 clone and send it 5 messages, for the life of the account. Free clones run on Clonebased's own AI key.
- A Pro account can build up to 3 new clones a week. Chat edits run on the Builder's own AI key and are not counted; a backstop pauses them after $50 of edits in a month, so a misused account cannot run up the Builder's bill. Clicking to edit is never limited.
- Each clone can hold up to 1,000 active student logins, and up to 500 new logins can be issued per clone each week, and no more than 1,200 in any 30 days.
- A student's use is covered by a generous allowance that renews every five hours; one person studying hard never reaches it, but a login shared among many people does.
- A preview link carries an abuse allowance only, so a leaked link cannot run up a Builder's bill.
- Course material is capped per clone at about two million characters of text — a full flagship course and a library of documents — beside what the clone reads from the creator's channel.
- Find Creators is capped as described above.
These limits are shown in the product. Beyond them sit backstops that only misuse could reach: 15 published clones per account, 1,500,000 answers per account a month, and caps on how often channels can be looked up and how much a month's builds can read from YouTube. We may change limits, and a change takes effect when it is applied.
Your AI key
Every Pro Builder's clones run on the Builder's own Anthropic API key: building, chat edits, previews and students' answers. The key, the Anthropic account it belongs to, its usage and its costs are the Builder's, under the Builder's own agreement with Anthropic. We store the key encrypted, use it only on our servers to run your clones, never show it again in full, never include it in error reporting, and delete it the moment your account is deleted, or 30 days after your subscription ends. We do not pay for, top up, monitor or chase your Anthropic account. When a key stops working, your clones pause gracefully and your dashboard says so; they resume the moment the key works again.
Pricing and payment
- Builder Pro: $79 per month (USD), billed monthly. Publishing clones, hosting up to 15 published clones, student logins, course material and Find Creators are included. Your Anthropic usage is not: it is billed to you by Anthropic.
- Creators and students pay nothing to us, ever.
- Payments are taken through Stripe Managed Payments, under which Stripe's affiliate Sold through Link, LLC ("Onelink") is the seller of record for your subscription. It collects and accounts for any sales tax or VAT, and Checkout may offer the price in your local currency, with the choice to pay in US dollars instead. The price shown includes any tax; no tax is added on top of it.
- Current pricing is shown on our pricing page. Changes take effect at your next renewal.
You can cancel anytime — see Cancellation and Refunds below.
What a subscription keeps alive
No clone, course material, student login or AI key is kept for more than 30 days without a paying subscription behind it.
- If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries for about two weeks. Everything stays live throughout, and you are warned in the product and by email. Paying the overdue invoice from the billing page settles it and nothing changes. The card your renewals use is the one in your Onelink account, which you change at app.onelink.com; a card added in the billing portal is not used for renewals.
- When a subscription ends — because those retries ran out, or because a cancelled period finished — every clone attached to the account goes offline immediately, together with its site, its preview links and its students' access. Students see a plain "unavailable" page and nothing about your billing.
- If you resubscribe within 30 days, everything comes back exactly as it was.
- 30 days after the subscription ended, everything is permanently deleted: the clones, their sites, their course material, their student logins and your key. You are emailed before this happens.
- A Free account's clone is deleted 30 days after it was built. A clone that has never been published is deleted 30 days after it was built, whatever the plan; publishing it keeps it. The product shows the date in both cases.
- A student login lasts one month from when it was issued or renewed. It can be renewed for 30 days after it expires, then it is deleted.
Cancellation
Builders cancel Pro from the billing page, which opens Stripe's customer portal. A cancellation made that way takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for: Pro stays active until that date, and you are not charged again. When it ends, your clones go offline as described above.
Deleting your account works differently. Deletion cancels your subscription immediately rather than at the end of the period, takes every clone of yours offline at that moment, and erases your account, your clones, their course material, their student logins and your key at once. There is no recovery.
Refunds
Your subscription is sold to you by Onelink, and Onelink's terms for what is sold through it apply. You ask Onelink's customer support for a refund (support.onelink.com), and Onelink decides it case by case; it does not refund an unused part of a subscription period or a change of mind unless the law requires it. Ending a subscription part-way through a period, by cancelling or by deleting your account, does not by itself refund the unused part.
If you are a consumer in the UK or the EU, you can cancel a new subscription within 14 days of subscribing without giving a reason, and nothing in these Terms takes that away. Onelink, as the seller, honours it: within those 14 days, ask Onelink's customer support for a refund and give "cooling off period" as the reason. Cancel Pro from the billing page too, so it does not renew. This right belongs to the first 14 days of a new subscription, not to each renewal.
Ownership
The creator's material — their videos, their course documents, their name and likeness — stays the creator's. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of it to a Builder or to us.
Rights in what Clonebased generates for a clone — its site's copy and design settings, and the descriptions of the creator's voice, personality and knowledge that the Builder can edit — belong to the Builder who built it, subject to the creator's rights in the underlying material. We retain all rights to the Clonebased platform, its prompts, templates, mascot and design system at all times, and may use aggregated, anonymised usage data to improve the product.
Students' conversations with a clone live on the student's own device. We do not store them, and neither the Builder nor the creator can read them through us.
You grant us a limited licence to host, render, process and modify a clone's content for the purpose of operating the service, including sending it to the AI provider to generate answers. The licence ends for a clone when it is no longer hosted with us.
Your content and your responsibility
Everything you add — the creator's channel, their course material, the names and edits you make, and the words a clone is set up to say — is your responsibility as the Builder: its accuracy, its legality, its licensing, the creator's agreement, and its compliance with the laws of wherever you, the creator and their students are. AI-generated answers may contain errors. A clone speaking as a real person is your responsibility to that person.
Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold harmless ApeTec Ltd and its officers and employees against any third-party claims, losses, liabilities and reasonable legal costs arising from content you add, generate or publish, from a clone you build or run, from your use of the service, or from your breach of these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy.
Enforcement
We may take a clone offline, and may suspend or terminate the responsible account, where content violates the Acceptable Use Policy, where a creator proves a takedown as described above, or where we are legally required to act.
Disclaimers and liability
CLONEBASED IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE FEES YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED BY LAW.
Changes
We may update these Terms. The date above shows the current version. Material changes take effect when posted here. Continuing to use Clonebased after a change means you accept it.
General
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. These Terms, together with the Acceptable Use Policy, Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the service. A person who is not a party to these Terms has no right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 to enforce any of them.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, except where the consumer protection laws of your country of residence require otherwise.
